Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-08

1. Who we are

This policy covers iceskatingnearyou.com, operated as Ice Skating Near You ("we", "us", or "the Site"). The Site is an independent directory of public ice skating rinks in the United States.

If you have questions about this policy or your information, email us at hello@iceskatingnearyou.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you send us

The Site has no accounts, no logins, no contact form, no comments, and no server-side form processing. The only way to send us information is by email.

When you email us, we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, and whatever you write. We use it to respond to you and to handle listing corrections, additions, and removals.

We keep correspondence only as long as needed for those purposes and to maintain a record of changes made to listings.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. These may include your IP address, browser and device type, the page you requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the request.

These logs are used for security, troubleshooting, and keeping the Site running. We do not use them to build profiles of individual visitors.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are viewed, how long visits last, the type of device and browser, and the approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics sets cookies and similar identifiers to do this. We use the reports to improve the directory, not to identify you.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.

You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, and learn more at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Other third-party services described below may also collect information automatically when your browser loads their content.

Your location

The Site has an optional Use my location button. Nothing happens until you click it. When you do, your browser asks for your permission through its built-in geolocation feature.

If you allow it, your coordinates are processed in your browser only, to sort rinks by distance from you. Your location is never sent to our servers, and we do not store it.

If you decline, the rest of the Site works normally, and you can browse by state or city or use search instead.

Information about rinks

Our listings describe businesses, not individual visitors. Listing data comes from public business listing data (Google Maps business profile information gathered through a third-party data provider, Outscraper).

It includes business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, hours, ratings, and review counts. We do not publish individual reviews or reviewer names.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Apart from the Google Analytics cookies described above, we do not set tracking cookies. Third parties that provide services on the Site may set cookies or use similar technologies, such as device identifiers, in your browser.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense)

The Site is funded by display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. This can include personalized ads.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet. We do not control which ads are shown, and we do not receive personal information about you from Google.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings. You can also learn more at aboutads.info.

To learn how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Depending on where you are, you may see a consent message about advertising cookies. Your choices there are managed by Google's consent tools.

5. Other third-party services

When you visit the Site, your browser connects directly to some third-party servers to load content. Those providers receive your IP address and basic browser information as a normal part of that request.

• Google Fonts. Font files are loaded from Google's servers.
• OpenStreetMap. Maps on the Site load map tiles from OpenStreetMap servers, which see your IP address when tiles load.
• Google image servers. Rink photos, where shown, load from Google's image servers.
• Hosting provider. Our host serves the Site and keeps the standard server logs described above.

Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them if you want more detail.

6. How we use information

We use the limited information we have to:

• Reply to your emails and act on your requests
• Correct, add, or remove rink listings
• Keep the Site secure, working, and free of abuse
• Fund the Site through advertising
• Meet legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not use your email address for marketing, and we do not add you to a mailing list.

7. Sharing information

We do not share the emails you send us, except where needed to act on your request or where required by law. As described above, third-party services receive information directly from your browser when you use the Site.

8. Your privacy rights

You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. Blocking cookies may affect the ads you see but will not stop the directory from working.

Residents of some US states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and others, have rights under state privacy laws. These may include the right to know, access, correct, or delete personal information.

They may also include the right to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those laws define it. Advertising cookies set by Google may fall under these definitions.

To opt out of personalized ads, use Google Ad Settings. Your browser may also support Global Privacy Control, which some states recognize as an opt-out signal.

To make a request about information we hold, such as your emails to us, contact us at hello@iceskatingnearyou.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it.

If you are in another country, you may have similar rights under local law. Contact us and we will do our best to help.

9. Children's privacy

The Site is meant for general family audiences, but it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please email us and we will delete it.

10. Data security and retention

Because the Site is static, with no database or user accounts, there is very little personal information for us to hold. We keep email correspondence only as long as it is useful for the purposes above, and we take reasonable steps to protect it.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. External links

Rink pages and articles link to other websites, such as rink websites and map services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site or the law changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect where practical.

13. Contact

For any privacy question or request, email hello@iceskatingnearyou.com. You can also read our terms of use and disclaimer.
